Apps & Web-based Self Help


Sometimes internet-based therapy is a useful place to learn or to refresh your knowledge of coping skills and strategies. It is important to remember that virtual programs are not a substitute for diagnosis and treatment by a qualified practitioner. If you do decide to use a "virtual" therapy program, make sure you speak about this with your "real life" therapist to see which program might be right for you. 

Mood Gym is a free Cognitive Behavioural Therapy program for treatment of mild-moderate depression and anxiety. https://moodgym.anu.edu.au/welcome 

e-couch is another free therapy program for mild-moderate depression and anxiety. It provides information, strategies and exercises useful for understanding and managing emotional problems. https://ecouch.anu.edu.au/welcome 

ReachOut au.reachout.com has great tips for helping young people deal with stress, depression, anxiety and other issues like bullying or dealing with divorce. There are sections for kids and for parents, and a "toolbox" with links to helpful apps (which are great for grown ups too) http://au.reachout.com/sites/thetoolbox 

Smiling Mind is a free web and App-based program developed by a team of psychologists with expertise in youth and adolescent therapy. Using mindfulness, this program can help you to learn strategies to manage stress, anxiety and low mood. smilingmind.com.au 

myCompass can be used on computers or smart phones for treatment of stress, anxiety and depression. It teaches strategies and provides a diary to keep track of your progress. mycompass.org.au 

This Way Up includes a short free program, and a longer low-cost program, with treatment for panic disorder, generalised anxiety, depression and obsessive compulsive disorder. thiswayup.org.au 

MindSpot includes treatment for obsessive compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress, anxiety and depression. There is also an additional program designed for people aged over 60. www.mindspot.org.au 

OnTrack has programs for depression and alcohol misuse www.ontrack.org.au 

MoodSwings is a treatment program for Bipolar Affective Disorder aimed at patients, families and carers. www.moodswings.net.au 

Mental Health Online has programs for a variety of anxiety disorders. www.mentalhealthonline.org.au 

Bite Back is a website for young people which site includes videos, activities and strategies to help improve mental fitness, as well as a space for sharing stories. biteback.org.au 

Chilled Plus is a free online program for high school students with depression or anxiety. Run by Macquarie University, the program teaches creative ways to manage emotions and to reach personal goals and dreams. More information at chilledplus.org.au 

OCD? Not Me! is an online 8-week program developed by Curtin University for adolescents with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It also provides support for families. Details at https://www.ocdnotme.com.au/
